Part II - From Sorcerer's Apprentice to Mad Scientist:
How to Escape Your Box and How I did It. In my first job I created the first Pay Cable Network HBO. I didn’t get credit for it and wasn’t in charge, but RCA survived. How I got from there to being able to create fundamental infrastructure and what I am working on now. This will be the second in a series. Current computing and communications networks are complex entities that have evolved piecemeal, layer upon layer, running multiple standards, and proprietary products. As a result, they often are brittle, inflexible, expensive to operate, and insecure. On the cusp of autonomous vehicles, Smart Everything, IoT, 5G, etc., our large systems composed of layers of technology and proprietary vendor solutions shaped by histories of administrative change, can only meet the requirements for reliability, security, and affordability with the addition of a distributed orchestration overlay. This talk will describe how that is done.
