Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve & Caldecott Tunnel roadcuts

Details
We'll meet at the east side of the Caldecott Tunnel (at the roadcuts on the north side of the highway, right near the Fish Ranch Road exit) to examine the beautifully exposed rocks there.
Next we'll walk about 1.75 miles up fire trails through the Robert Sibley Regional Preserve until we arrive at the Sibley Volcanic Regional Reserve guided hike. The Volcanic hike is describes as "2.2 hours," then we'll walk back down the 1.75 miles to the cars. Plan on about 4-5 hours for the entire hike.
Great background on the Volcanic Preserve can be found here: https://www.kqed.org/quest/exploration/sibley-volcanic-regional-preserve-exploration (including an 11 page downloadable PDF guidebook with photos and map markers).
I set the limit at 50 since so many people tend to sign up then remove themselves, so don't be intimidated by the number. Our attendance so far has been 8, 16, and 18. Please remember to change your RSVP if you find you can't make it.
We'll hike rain or shine, so bring your galoshes and other rain gear if it's raining!
If you want to take BART, email me with your phone number (I'll give you my cell in return), and I can pick you up from Orinda BART at 9:30 am (if we get many people coming on BART, we'll get others to help with car shuttles--it's only two exits down the freeway).
