Southern California Linux Expo (SCaLE 15x)

Details

Join us at the Southern California Linux Expo (http://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale/15x) (SCaLE 15x), the largest volunteer-run open source technology conference in North America.

SCaLE is a family-friendly conference that serves a diverse audience from IT professionals to students and educators and even youth. Talks run the gamut from super-technical to beginner and also cover soft skills like mentorship, community building or professional development. The expo hall contains vendor booths like RedHat, Facebook and RedHat, but also community booths like SGVLUG/SGVHAK (visit us!), One Laptop Per Child, and Linux Astronomy.

The tickets are cheap. Register with discount code SGVLG to get 50% off the 4-day pass. It is currently $42.50 after discount; it will be $45 after discount after the early bird price expires on Feb 21st. Or you can pay $20 for an expo-only pass. (Kids usually get in free if accompanied by adult.)

Register here: https://reg.socallinuxexpo.org/reg6/

There are a large number of collocated meetings like Ubucon Summit (http://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale/15x/ubucon-summit), DevOps Days (http://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale/15x/devopsday-la), Open Infra Day (http://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale/15x/open-infrastructure-day), Bad Voltage Live (http://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale/15x/bad-voltage-live), etc. There are also informal gatherings called Birds of a Feather (http://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale/15x/birds-feather). There are all-day Linux Installfest and Beginner training classes (http://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale/15x/presentations/linux-installfest-and-beginner-training) on Saturday and Sunday.

This year, there appears to be a lot of talks on containers and Docker as well as some tutorials for Kubernetes. There are talks about open source in enterprise.

There is strong educational and youth programming as well. On Saturday, our youth have their own track of talks with The Next Generation (http://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale/15x/scale-kids). On Sunday, our educators speak about Open Source Software in Education (OSSIE). In addition, there is a pretty awesome Game Night (http://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale/15x/game-night-family-hour) on Saturday night that starts around 8pm for families and is opened at 9pm for the rest of us.
