About us

I am on a mission to read through Shakespeare's plays and sonnets from the summer of 2026 to the summer of 2027. I've decided to bite the bullet and pay to create a group around this goal, as I'd much prefer to have some buddies with me! You need not commit to the whole folio. Everyone is welcome to drop in only for what interests them.

The basic plan is to read one play ourselves alone every week (excepting holidays) and then get together on Sunday mornings to discuss and compare/improve our comprehensions.

I will schedule the first several meetings at the Muse in Everett, which is a gorgeous cafe. In order to get seats, we will meet early (but not "early early"!) and limit each meeting to five attendees. (We'll see if/how this works out for us... might adjust if it does not work at all...) However, if/when we've established a group at the Muse, I would be amenable to planning a relocation to a more-accommodating spot for most members, which I imagine would be further south. I will try to keep several plays scheduled ahead of time so you can periodically (monthly or so) check what's coming up and only sign up for the plays you're interested in dissecting.

Looking ahead, after we've read all of Shakespeare, it would be lovely to transition this group into a general classics-oriented reading group, but by no means do members need to commit to that. Just saying: I will likely keep this group running for this year and then cancel it in 2027, after we've (hopefully) established a consistent, core group.

I hope you'll join us! I'm really looking forward to flexing my brain with some curious people.
