Government Canyon State Natural Area Birding/Nature Walk

Details
Looking for a more challenging morning walk to your routine? Then how about a birding/nature hike through part of the backcountry in the Government Canyon State Natural Area?
This event is sponsored by the Bexar Audubon Society so the focus is on birds, but other interesting plants and insect species will also be pointed out. No birding experience is necessary. Binoculars are a plus, but even without them, there will be plenty to see and hopefully learn. Depending on how the group is doing, we will hike out about 1.5 miles along the Joe Johnson Route, which is part of the backcountry, and then double back.
We will meet Zachary Tonzetich, who is conducting the walk, in the parking lot near the Government Canyon Visitor's Center. You are encouraged to purchase day passes ahead of time if you don’t have a Texas State Parks Pass already. Bring water, sunscreen, insect repellant, and dress appropriately (especially footwear) for rugged trails. Terrain will be uneven and rocky in some areas.
Reminder, that this event requires the purchase of a day pass if you do not have a Texas State Park Pass. At the time of this printing, it was $6 for anyone 13 and older. All participants are required to purchase the park admission on their own.
