OU’s Special Research Collections Field Trip

Details
Join us for a unique field trip to the University of Oklahoma’s Special Research Collections, where we’ll explore one of the most foundational works in computer science history—Ada Lovelace’s translation and notes on Charles Babbage’s Analytical Engine. This rare 1843 publication, Sketch of the Analytical Engine, is a cornerstone of modern computing, offering insights into early algorithmic thinking.
Our visit will include a guided look at the historical text, discussion on its impact, and an opportunity to engage with other rare scientific works housed in the collection.
You will be asked to check your bags and wash your hands (in order to touch rare materials).
Space is limited to 20 attendees, so RSVP soon to secure your spot!
Location:
We will meet at the Bizzell Library on the 5th floor. Enter and use the elevators on the side of the clocktower (which is the west side).
Parking:
There are two lots close to the library where you can park. There is a lot located at the corner of Elm Avenue and Brooks Street besides the Charles B. Goddard Center and one behind the Goddard center off of College Avenue. There may be open spaces at the North Oval, north of the Bizzell Library. There is a map of these spaces that is included below.
Feel free to find parking at any lot or space that doesn't say it is restricted.
