Full description:
This walk explores Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire. Starting from Worksop town centre, we have a mile or so on road through residential areas before we get out into the countryside. We then walk on paths through forests and green space to reach Clumber Park itself.
We cross through Hardwick Village and aim to stop for lunch and a cuppa by the lake (there are kiosks but would recommend bringing food with you for lunch). Then we then continue walking by the lake before walking across the vast parkland and forest before heading on tracks across parkland to the edge of Worksop. We then have a shorter walk-through residential streets back to the start.
Please note that the walk leader has checked with the National Trust and there is no obligation to pay an admission fee as we will be sticking to public footpaths. If you wish to visit other parts of the estate (time permitting) you would need to buy a ticket.
Whilst this is a relatively flat walk, please note it is fairly long and we will need to maintain a fairly fast pace.
Public transport or car sharing options: Please offer lifts on Meetup if you can. There is plenty of car parking in Worksop but mostly pay and display.
Public transport option is the 08.38 train from Sheffield arriving at 09.07. It is then an easy 15-20 minute walk to the starting time leaving time for late trains or to pick up some lunch. The walk leader will be travelling by train and will wait on the platform at Worksop. Return trains are hourly. There are also bus options from surrounding areas.
Be prepared:
Please remember to dress appropriately for the time of year, with plenty of warm clothes and waterproofs, as well as food and water. Further information on what to bring can be found on our website here: https://www.sheffieldwalkinggroup.org.uk/be-prepared
