Off the Shelf - Revolting: A riotous history of rebellions and revolutions
Details
Not really theatre or cinema - but some of you may fancy this.
Talk starts 3pm, so we'll meet at venue about 2.40. It's in the auditorium which is part of the University of Sheffield Students Union, so meet on the pedestrian side / under the road (ie Octogan side). Talks usually last c.45-60 mins.
Revolting is a riotous tour for an adult audience through the history of civil disobedience, highlighting some of the most consequential revolts and uprisings from around the world. It is a truth universally acknowledged that the rich and powerful always look after their own and the working people are always revolting. But every now and again, a new group manages to seize power and change history. From Bulgarian swineherd Ivaylo who managed to fight off the Mongol Hordes, slay the Tsar and marry his widow within a year to two suffragists who posted themselves by Royal Mail to see the Prime Minister. A first-class idea, though Downing Street declined the parcel.
