Hathersage Well Dressing

Details

Come and witness the tradition of welldressing at two of the wells in this wonderful Derbyshire village on this interesting event that will be led by our friends of Halifax and Huddersfield IVC.

Well dressing celebrates water and the life that it brings by decorating local wells with elaborately adorned screens, painstakingly created by hand using local natural materials, mainly leaves and flowers, pressed onto a bed of soft clay.

Hathersage has so much going on with a range of shops, cafes and pubs. The local church is also worth a visit with the reputed grave of Little John, one of Robin Hoods merry band of outlaws. There is even an outdoor swimming pool if you feel adventurous enough. We will also be taking a short country walk in the surrounding area for those who wish to do so (Approx 3 miles). Please ensure that you have appropriate footwear and clothing.
We are meeting in Hathersage at Cintras Tea room, which is on the main road opposite the junction with the Bakewell Road.
