Scrambling and trad climbing on Gardom's Edge

Details

MEET AT:- Clodhall Lane, near the crossroads, rough postcode S42 7DG. This is free parking.

ABOUT THE EDGE
With Gardom's being a favourite location to scramble and climb, it sits nice and beautifully along the side of the A621 after the crossroads out of Sheffield towards the town of Bakewell. This is mainly a climbing meet, but involves fun and diverse scrambling along the bottom of the edge to get to the climbs. We for one, really like this edge, with it's good views, mixture of physical rock formations, scrambles and general surrounding environmental vibe.

BECAUSE WE NEED TO TRY AND SAVE OUR BEAUTIFUL PLANET
As an environmentally conscious group, we actively encourage car sharing. You can requests lifts from others from Sheffield, Manchester and other surroundings areas, nearer the time.

THE EVENT'S PLAN
The full day will include us making our way from the roadside parking through the gate at the corner next to the crossroads, along the path to the right, which takes us to the first set of rocks, which is a bouldering field really, but also has free climbs in its mix. Here we can briefly take in the views and have a play about on the rocks etc. We will then make our way back along the path through the gate, taking a slight right hand diversion down, to where the first climbing crags are, we'll keep hiking and scrambling along the bottom of the edge to our first climbing lines of interest.

After our last climb, we'll make our way up a scramble, hike along the distinctive path, back through the gate and follow the first path back to the parking.

WHAT EQUIPMENT TO BRING THEREFORE IMPORTANT
You will need and therefore must bring a HELMET, which is of first importance and an obvious piece of equipment. Seen some people, not this group but strangers, at a crag whether they're climbing or belaying, mainly belaying, not wearing one. This is a massive (excuse the terminology) schoolboy error and is annoying. At any time around a climbing crag, a helmet must always be worn in case of a slip or a boulder from the top of a climb could come crashing down, you just never know. CLIMBING SHOES and a BELAY DEVICE, also known as a belay plate for belaying the climber and a HARNESS. These four bits of equipment are the essentials.

If you have a rope and gear (also known as safety), great, please bring these along also, as we'll most likely need a few ropes anyway. A 40m max rope will do, bring half ropes as well, just in case they're needed, as apposed to a single one, which we'll be bringing, because they are of use on their own. As stated, if you have any safety gear, please bring this, as the more we have the better, to use amongst us all, not to mention slings etc, especially in different sizes and more bits help.

OTHER NOTICE
If you are able to bring your own rope and safety gear, the event will be free for you, if you don't have these, that's ok, as we always provide our full support, guidance and help whilst climbing, in this case, we ask that a £4 cash contribution, to go to significant wear and tear usage of others equipment. This £4 includes the usual £2 that goes to the group's operating costs, which costs a significant amount each year to us, so we can pass it onto Gerry. This is always very much appreciated. Many thanks.
