Climbing at Lawrencefield

Details
MEET AT:- Surprise View car park, Hope Valley S32 1DA.
ABOUT THE EDGE
Across the road from the carpark, Lawrencefield Quarry is a well-known and popular climbing crag located in the Longshaw Estate area. It's a sheltered and hidden quarry, often referred to as Bole Hill on some maps, and has been a climbing destination for over 60 years. The area is known for its variety of climbs, ranging from easier routes around Gingerbread Slab, (which will be the main focus) to more challenging classics on the steep, smooth walls near the pool, which is close by to the left. Additionally, the long right-hand side of the quarry features the Red Wall area, which has been developed for boulderers.
BECAUSE WE NEED TO TRY AND SAVE OUR BEAUTIFUL PLANET
As an environmentally conscious group, we actively encourage car sharing. You can requests lifts from others from Sheffield, Manchester and other surroundings areas, nearer the time.
THE EVENT'S PLAN
Is to make our way across that, what can be a busy main A road, with it's blind right hand corner at that far end. Opposite this corner, we'll take a short hike through the public gate, which leads us down to the crag.
It's a nice, around a 100 metre rocky hike to the bottom, where we can take a moment to take in the surroundings of this magnificent looking place. As stated above, the main focus will be on the Gingerbread Slab routes. If you feel like climbing something that looks different, but is more or less in the same ballpark as the slab, or in my words crazy, insane etc?, just look to your left and you'll see there are higher level climbs, including Es.
Also, if you wish, you can venture to the right of the Gingerbread Slab, through the trees, where there's a significant path around the Red Wall area, the only problem is, it will most likely be covered in algae, but you can always take a look.
We will hike back up the way we came down from the carpark, after our time here.
WHAT EQUIPMENT TO BRING THEREFORE IMPORTANT
You will need and therefore must bring a HELMET, which is of first importance and an obvious piece of equipment. Seen some people, not this group but strangers, at a crag whether they're climbing or belaying, mainly belaying, not wearing one. This is a massive (excuse the terminology) schoolboy error and is annoying. At any time around a climbing crag, a helmet must always be worn in case of a slip or a boulder from the top of a climb could come crashing down, you just never know. CLIMBING SHOES and a BELAY DEVICE, also known as a belay plate for belaying the climber and a HARNESS. These four bits of equipment are the essentials.
If you have a rope and gear (also known as safety), great, please bring these along also, as we'll most likely need a few ropes anyway. A 40m rope will do on some lines, but if you have a 60-70m please bring it, bring half ropes as well, just in case they're needed, as apposed to a single one, which we'll be bringing, because they are of use on their own. As stated, if you have any safety gear, please bring this, as the more we have the better, to use amongst us all, not to mention slings etc, especially in different sizes and more bits help.
OTHER NOTICE
This time, if you can contribute £2, so we can pass it onto Gerry. This is always very much appreciated. Many thanks.
