Climbing at Curbar Edge

Details

MEET AT: Curbar Gap car park, Clodhall Lane, Hope Valley, S32 3YR.
This car park is £5 all day, if memory serves but according to sources, unless you have a national trust or RSPB members pass, then it's free. There is also free road side parking further down Clodhall Lane, enough space for about 12 vehicles.

ABOUT CURBAR EDGE
One of the very best looking climbing and scrambling edges I've come across and very pleasurable, with its clear view (on a clear day of course), of Baslow edge to the South West, not to mention its ''that's not a bad view'' as some of us say, it has of the villages of Curbar and Calver surrounded by England's green and pleasant land. Its gritstone rocks, are arguably the best type of mountaineering rocks, comprising a full range and mixture of graded climbs and scrambles in between. Other than the likes of 15ish metre high edges such as Millstone, Horseshoe Quarry and Froggatt edges to name a few, Curbar Edge has its own gem of height E grade climbing face as well. It's an astonishing sight.

BECAUSE WE NEED TO TRY AND SAVE OUR BEAUTIFUL PLANET
As an environmentally conscious group, we actively encourage car sharing. You can requests lifts from others from Sheffield, Manchester and other surroundings areas, nearer the time.

THE EVENT'S PLAN
The full day will include us making our way up a few steps, then left along a hiking path, through the gate, carrying on along the long meandering path. This is only a short walk-in, just like all those long one's we've had to endure hahaaaa!, because we're hardcore. We will find our first crag to, warm up even more, then move on to any climbs of people's comfort and taste. After out last climb, we'll make our way back onto the top of the edge, along the same path, through the gate, then split up down whichever path, according to whichever parking place everyone is at.

WHAT EQUIPMENT TO BRING, THEREFORE IMPORTANT
You will need and therefore must bring a HELMET, which is of first importance and an obvious piece of equipment. Seen some people, not this group but strangers, at a crag whether they're climbing or belaying, mainly belaying, not wearing one. This is a massive (excuse the terminology) schoolboy error and is annoying. At any time around a climbing crag, a helmet must always be worn in case of a slip or a boulder from the top of a climb could come crashing down, you just never know. CLIMBING SHOES and a BELAY DEVICE, also known as a belay plate for belaying the climber and a HARNESS. These four bits of equipment are the essentials.
If you have a rope and gear (also known as safety), great, please bring these along also, as we'll most likely need a few ropes anyway. A 40m max rope will do, bring half ropes as well, just in case they're needed, as apposed to a single one, which we'll be bringing, because they are of use on their own. As stated, if you have any safety gear, please bring this, as the more we have the better, to use amongst us all, not to mention slings etc, especially in different sizes and more bits help.

OTHER NOTICE
This time, if you can contribute £2, so we can pass it onto Gerry. This is always very much appreciated. Many thanks.
