A CAVING CHRISTMAS FEAST - No technical equipment required, Just foooood!
Details
It's time for the annual Sheffield Mountaineering Caving Christmas Feast!!
THE MEET
This meet is an annual tradition and something a bit different. We will be visiting Bagshawe Cavern and plan to have a mini 'Christmas Feast' while in the cave. People will be asked to bring some food and drink each. We will stop towards the end of the system in the 'Hippodrome', have a bit of a feast and then head back out. This meet is perfect for people of any ability, even those who want to try caving but aren't 100% sure about it. This meet requires no equipment other than helmet and head torch. Bagshawe is a very easy system to navigate around and the perfect place for people to try caving for the first time. We usually find the feast lasts around 2 hours. People often bring fairy lights, candles and so forth with them which is a great idea.
Don't forget bin bags, 'Leave no trace'
- - -
You WILL REQUIRE a helmet & head torch.
- - -
There are a few pools of water on the walk in, only around 10 / 12 inches deep so wellies are great but hiking boots are equally fine if you're happy with wet feet. There is one very short section where crawling or stooping is required , don't worry, no tight squeezes!
I expect to be in the system for around 2 hours, 3 hours max. The main aim is to enter the system, Explore, Have a feast and then head back out.
FEES.
This meet is FREE to join however there is a £2 entry fee to the cavern that will need to be paid in cash upon entry.
CLOTHING.
Wear warm clothing, waterproofs and hiking boots or wellies / waders. Bring a towel and spare kit if you wish. I suggest waterproof trousers and jacket. Nothing expensive, it will get a bit muddy. As we wont be moving much when eating, warm clothing is a must. A rucksack for your food and drink is perfect.
- EQUIPMENT.
Head torch, Helmet. That's all! - EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.
None at all. - TIMES.
Meet time will be 16:00Hr with a plan to leave the carpark at 16:15Hr. Please arrive a little early if possible. - LOCATION
