Route: Yellowslacks Brook and Ashton Clough

Meet at: Roadside parking at the Eastern end of Shepley Street, Old Glossop, postcode: SK13 7RZ, OS map reference: SK056942. As an environmentally conscious group, we actively encourage car sharing. A day of quality scrambling and hiking centred round a visit to the famous crash site of the USAAF B29 Superfortress "Over Exposed".

The full day will include a hike up the Western flank of Yellow Slacks hill, an entertaining steep scrambly descent to the valley floor, a Grade 1 scrambling ascent of Yellowslacks Brook and continuation up Dovestone Clough, a hike to Higher Shelf Stones to the B29 crash site, a Grade 1 scrambling descent of Ashton Clough, strewn with the wreckage of a C47 transport plane, then a scenic hike along the Doctors Gate path on the way back to the car.

Difficulty: Grade 1 scrambling, suitable for beginners. For more information on scrambling grades see:

Experience Required: Some previous hillwalking/hiking experience would be beneficial along with a reasonable level of fitness, sense of adventure and preparation for any weather.

Duration: Approx. 12 km with height gain of approx. 350 metres. Estimated time 5 to 6 hours.
