Scrambling Nether Red Brook
Details
Route: Nether Red Brook
Suitable for beginners and more experienced scramblers.
Assemble at 09.45 for a prompt 10.00 departure
Meet in the Birchin Clough Bridge car park on the A57, about 1 km west of what was the Snake Pass Inn, now a residential house. Approx post code S33 0AB. Map reference SK109914. The car park is on the right if coming from Sheffield, parking is free. As an environmentally conscious group, we actively encourage car sharing. Further details of car sharing arrangements from Sheffield, Manchester and elsewhere will appear in the comments section nearer the time.
We will follow the River Ashop for approx 1 hour to take us to the start of the scramble, To get there, it will be necessary to walk across wet ground, so please be prepared for wet feet.
For those looking for more challenging scrambles, there are a couple of more difficult finishes on the right of the main route
At the top, we will hike along Black Ashop Edge stopping at the pedestal stones for some walking on air photos before descending by Fair Brook. A walk through deforested land, then along the river bank, takes us back to the cars.
A reasonable level of fitness would be beneficial.
Distance approx 13 km.
Clothing for all weathers, with enough food/drink/water for a day out.
As always, if everybody wants to contribute £2.00 towards our Meet Up site fees and other operating costs, that will be great.
Many thanks, Dave.
P.S. optional refreshments afterwards at the Yorkshire Bridge pub.
