What we’re about
Sheffield Stoics is for anyone living in Sheffield and the surrounding region and interested in exploring Stoicism as a practical philosophy. Currently our main activity is the Stoic Reading Group, where we read a Stoic text together, discuss it, and explore how to apply Stoic ideas in our daily lives.

This month we'll carry on reading Chapter 4 (Dealing with Adversity).
No previous experience is necessary but to get the most out of the meeting we would recommend that you read the Chapter 4 beforehand. If you have not attended any meetings before, you may also like to read Chapters 1-3.
What is Stoicism?
Stoicism is a philosophy that originated in ancient Greece but is still practised today. It emphasises rationality and excellence of character, while seeing all people as part of an interconnected community. By distinguishing what is in our power (our thoughts, judgments and actions) and what is not (external events, luck and circumstances), and cultivating virtues like wisdom, justice, courage and moderation, we can achieve emotional resilience and inner peace. It's a practical guide for navigating life's challenges with tranquility.1 attendee
