Putting Secular Humanism to Work: From Belief to Action
Details
We secular humanists pretty well agree on our values, which for the most part are mainstream Western norms, except for our lack of religious belief. So how do we go about dealing socially and politically with a majority who have trouble accepting our viewpoint? In fact, the American Humanist Association (AHA) has composed a list of Ten Commitments, which addresses our behavior, if not directly how to work with "believers". So we will start with the Ten Commitments, and then raise related points. These might include overcoming believer "pushback" that we've all experienced. Or how to enact laws that favor religious freedom. Or separation of church and state. How do we "choose our battles"? Are any particular issues dear to you? Etc. Practical advice from your individual experience would be welcome.
