THIS IS THE MEETING NIGHT
RULES and SCHEDULE
We meet on the second and fourth Thursday. We exchange work ahead of time, read and critique it, and then meet to discuss the work. The submission deadline will be the Sunday that is ten (10) days prior to the Thursday that we meet. The MeeUp.com calendar shows the Thursdays we meet and the Sunday submission deadlines for the meetings.
Members will have until ten days prior to the meeting (Sunday) to submit work via Discord, up to 2,500 words, no more. Documents must be in .docx, .pdf, or .rtf format. The “document-drop” chat under the “Text Channels” on the Writers of Sherman Oaks Discord Server will be used for this purpose. Include your email address IN THE DOCUMENT if you want written feedback from other members. Written feedback is optional for both the author and the critiquers. Critiquers have the option to PASS and not give notes on any given work without question.
NOTE: Word Count does NOT include the title, your contact information, or a short “previously on” blurb telling us where we are in the story.
Only the first five submitted works will be accepted so that no one will have more than 12,500 words to read for any meeting. All submissions must be received by midnight on the Sunday that is ten (10) days prior to the meeting. Once we reach five submissions or the deadline, I will announce it on the “document-drop” and in email that the submission window for the week is closed. I will also announce which works are on the list. If we receive more than five submissions for a given meeting, the late submissions will get a spot at the next meeting ahead of anyone else.
Members will read and make notes regarding the submitted works. Notes can be sent to the author via email before or after the meeting. Written notes are optional. During the meeting, we will NOT be reading aloud. Instead, we will discuss each submitted work in turn. The order will be set by the host. Each critiquer will have 2 minutes to discuss their notes for the work. The author will call out the order of the critiques at their own digression.
At the end of each round of critiques, there will be 10 minutes of open discussion about the work. During these 10 minutes, any notes not given in the 2 minutes can be covered here, along with questions and general discussion about that work.
Then we will move onto the next author. Critiquers have the option to PASS and not give notes on any given work.
Each meeting will end with GOALS! We give one or two little writing or life goals we wish to accomplish in the coming weeks.
