Meet up every Friday to kick the ball around at Judkins Park & Playfield.
6:00-6:30 - Warmup, chatting, kicking the ball around
6:30-7:45 - Scrimmage!! We play on a much smaller than standard field and switch off who is in goal. It's more fun than competitive - we cheer harder when you totally miss than we do when a goal happens.
7:45-8:00 - Cooldown, passing around the circle, and chatting
What to bring:
WATER, Sneakers, Clothes you can move in
Don't let lack of supplies stop you from showing up. I bring supplies and we actually recommend NOT wearing cleats to prevent injuries from getting stepped on, but an extra ball and shin guards are worth bringing if you have them on hand. Depending on weather/season, I also recommend sunglasses, sunscreen, and mosquito repellent. And again, WATER.
Rules:
- Be bad at soccer or bring your shit-at-soccer energy
- No dudes! Sorry, guys
- Don't be the reason I have to make a new rule
Inclusivity: We're an intentionally diverse and queer friendly group - the host is a nonbinary lesbian. Trans women and nonbinary people are not dudes (hate that I have to say that these days) and I hope to see you on the field.
Parking: Super easy!! There is free street and parking lot parking in the area. It's generally fairly safe, but don't leave any high-ticket items (laptops etc) visible in your car.
Accessibility: We take regular water/rest breaks. Most of us are not in shape. There are benches, bathrooms, and paved sidewalks around the park. Full disclosure: the bathrooms are pretty shitty. Street lamps around the park turn on at sunset. I don't own a rattle ball, but I'm happy to use it if you bring it.
Dogs: This park frequently has off leash dogs running around.
I don't have an official permit/reservation for the field (costs $$$), so if someone shows up who has it (has never happened) then we have to move.
I do this completely for funsies, don't feel right charging anyone, and pay 34$ monthly for a meetup subscription (required to organize) as well as any of the supplies you see us using etc. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO THIS, but people have asked so: my venmo is @ellie-ish and the last 4 of my phone number is 0328.
