The Shorewalkers:Members Only Group is open to active members of Shorewalkers. Our volunteer hike leaders lead over 250 walks a year, on weekends and throughout the week. To become a member, visit our website Membership Levels - Shorewalkers.
Who We Are:
Shorewalkers is a non-profit environmental hiking organization founded in 1982. Our mission is to promote and preserve New York City’s waterfront and raise awareness of its shorelines by leading invigorating hikes throughout the metropolitan area. Our signature event, The Great Saunter, is a 32-mile trek along Manhattan's shoreline, held annually on the first Saturday of May. Additionally, we host the Great Saunter Fall Challenge, a virtual event in early October.

Join your fellow Shorewalkers for a great day at the Jersey Shore where we will cover about 10 miles walking mostly on boardwalk as well as a mile long stretch along the beach, seeing some cool stuff in the eight (yes 8) towns we will visit from Manasquan to Asbury Park.LEADER: Cameron Smith: camerons1006@gmail.com, 908-672-9250;
CO-LEADER: TBDWALK DETAILS: We will leave promptly at 1:00 PM from the Manasquan Train Station, heading about a mile to the Manasquan beach where we will have our first bathroom stop. After a short walk along the boardwalk, we will walk on the beach (now that's shore walking!) for about a mile and then pick up the boardwalk in Seagirt continuing to Spring Lake where we will go inland a few blocks to visit some cool sights.
After our second bathroom stop in Spring Lake, we will get back on the boardwalk and continue thru Belmar, Avon, Bradley Beach, and Ocean Grove where we will walk past the Great Auditorium. We then will cross over to Asbury Park finishing at the Asbury Park Brewery, where you will have three options:
- Go straight to the Asbury Park train station, about 5 minutes from the Asbury Park Brewery, to catch the 5:56p train back to New York City,
- Explore Asbury Park on your own. Train schedule for your return is here: Asbury to NYC train schedule
- BEST OPTION - Relax at the Asbury Park Brewery (https://www.asburyparkbrewery.com/home) with fellow Shorewalkers & enjoy craft beer and food you can buy at a number of nearby establishments (or bring your own), stop for ice cream, and take the 7:51p train back to NYC.
HOW TO GET THERE:
TRAIN: Take NJ Transit train departing from New York Penn Station at 10:43 AM (buy one way ticket to Manasquan - fare is $19.25/adult or $8.75 for 62+) which arrives in Manasquan at 12:53PM. Meet the group at NJ Transit waiting room near ticketing and restrooms, that is closest to 7th Ave. & 31st Street entrance (see posted photo below). Use bathrooms in station or on the train as first bathroom stop is one mile into walk.CAR: You can park right at the Manasquan train station for free.
Use address for Irish Rail restaurant at the station, 229 East Main Street, Manasquan, NJ 08736 as locator.BRING: Hat, sunscreen, water, and snacks (there will be no official 'lunch break')
BUY: One way ticket to Manasquan before boarding the train to avoid $5 surcharge (seniors don't get hit for surcharge); also note return is from Asbury Park.
GUESTS:
If you plan to bring a guest, please forward them this guest waiver and make sure they sign it before coming to the walk: (https://rb.gy/xjk4fb)MODIFIED RSVP PROCESS: In order to minimize the aggravation caused by casual clickers (those who change their mind at last minute so others can't take their spot), I will only take additional motivated members from the Waitlist who text me (908-672-9250) that they really want to attend this event. Just to be clear, NO TEXT, NO GO, I will require everyone including the president (I mean He Who Must Not Be Named, not Pam) who wants to join us from the Waitlist to text me (908-672-9250). Preference will be given to regulars on previous hikes and/or members who indicate they are highly motivated members (will also join us to socialize at Asbury Park Brewery at end of our walk). Members who are paying attention here will realize that no-one should be left on the Waitlist other than casual clickers (folks who don't pay attention to directions).
Please do not post any comments/questions prior to the hike, instead contact Cameron (leader) at 908-672-9250 or camerons1006@gmail.com if you have any questions.
