Details

Canceled due to weather forecast. Wet & windy weather would not be enjoyable for our walk looking at architecture.

If you’re participating in the Great Saunter Fall Challenge from Oct 1-16 https://shorewalkers.org/great-saunter-fall-challenge/, this walk will account for about 6.5 miles of your 32-mile goal. You don’t have to be doing the Fall Challenge to join this walk.

Let’s walk through neighborhoods in upper Manhattan with the annual Medieval Fest in Ft Tryon Park as our destination. We will stop to spot many Medieval references along the way - bring your imagination with you! We’ll walk at a comfortable pace and make frequent stops to talk about what we see. (If you’re looking for a fast-paced, non-stop walk, this isn’t the journey for you.)

Our walk ends at the Medieval Fest entrance. Walkers have the option of entering the Medieval Fest (free admission) or departing at the nearby A train 190th St station.

ARRIVE at 9:30am. Walk starts at 9:45am.

MEETING LOCATION: Dorrance Brooks Square at 137th Street & St. Nicholas Ave, east side of St. Nicholas Ave. Meet group near the plaza benches.

DIRECTIONS: Take C train to 135th.

DISTANCE: approx 6.5 miles

PACE: Moderate walking pace, not a speed walk, not a slow stroll. Walkers should be able to keep up with the group. We will stop along the route to talk about what we see. We will take a lunch/snack break (bring your own food).

TERRAIN: Route includes hills & stairs. City sidewalks with one short stretch off-path.

END LOCATION: Ft Tryon Park on Ft Washington Ave, next to the A subway (190th St station).

END TIME: About 3:30pm’ish (Note: end time is approximate!) If you attend the Medieval Fest after the walk, the end time will be when you decide to leave.

BATHROOMS at our first stop, .25 miles from the start, and at 2.25 miles, 3.5 miles, and 5 miles. There are bathrooms at the Medieval Fest as well.

BRING your own food/water with you.

WEATHER POLICY: Check the forecast & dress for the weather. In the case of iffy weather, walk leader will post a comment on this Meetup page by 7am on the day of the hike with walk status.
