Green Queens - 14 Miles through 9 Parks
Details
Join us for a unique 14-mile walk through the “green heart” of Queens where you’ll discover that the city can feel miles away. Our route connects 9 parks and 3 lakes, with almost the entire journey surrounded by trees, meadows, and quiet paths.
Meet:
9:30am in Forest Hills-71 Ave (subways E, F, R). We'll meet in front of the Vitamine Shoppe on the corner of Queens Blvd and 71 Ave. Please be on time. We start walking promptly!
Walk:
The walk is at a faster, steady pace. Total mileage is 14 miles.
We will walk through 6 major parks, 3 connector parks, and along 3 lakes — about 90% of the walk away from busy roads. Expect peaceful green stretches where you might forget you’re still in New York City:
- Forest Park
- Willow Lake (via recently opened walkway!)
- Meadow Lake & Flushing Meadows–Corona Park
- Queens Botanical Garden
- Kissena Corridor Park & Kissena Park
- Cunningham Park
- Vanderbilt Motor Parkway
- Alley Pond Park
The walk will end Alley Pond Park at the corner of Winchester Blvd and Union Tpke. Take local busses from there to subways and trains.
Good to know:
- Bring plenty of water, lunch, and snacks. The route runs almost entirely through parks. No shops once we start. (Stock up near 71 Ave before we begin.)
- We will stop for lunch at the Ederle Terrace on Meadow Lake.
- This is a 14-mile walk with limited drop-out points. Please only join if you’re comfortable with the distance.
- Once we get into Kissena Park and beyond, the only way to leave the walk is via local busses! They will take you to the nearest subway or train station.
