Trash to Treasure Walk on Staten Island
Details
Join us for the Trash to Treasure Walk on Staten Island.
Kiki B., longtime Shorewalker, licensed tour guide, and Staten Island resident, will lead you through repurposed art, installations, and murals, ending at a community-built pebble and cement grotto from the 1930s.
We’ll walk at a moderate pace, visit several parks, and hear a story you likely have never heard at each stop.
We’ll begin with the National Lighthouse park next to the ferry. We’ll pause for lunch at Inspiration Plaza (Minthorne Alley) and hit Bay Street parks. We’ll do a shoreline loopalong Front Street to Maker Park and back to Bay for a pause at Ralph’s Ices before ending at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Grotto in Rosebank. Take S78 bus at nearby Tompkins Ave. back to ferry.
Walking entire route is approx. 7 miles; one way approx. 4 miles. End time approx. 3:30 p.m. but may vary. Option for a post-walk beer at Mariachi Mexican Cantin (Minthorne Alley).
PLEASE NOTE: Shorewalkers who prefer a fast pace with one or two necessary stops are advised to look for another walk.
MEET: 10:45 a.m. at Whitehall Terminal on the Manhattan side. Hike Leader Kiki will meet the group on the second floor of the terminal next to restrooms. We'll take the 11 a.m. ferry (free). Diana will join the group at 11:25 a.m. on the Staten Island side, the St. George terminal near the restrooms.
BRING: water, lunch, snacks. Sunscreen and hat strongly recommended.

Take the Great Saunter Fall Challenge. Register here to walk 32 miles in 16 days starting October 4. Registration is only $10 ($8 for members), and Shorewalkers will donate all fees to the Carl Schurz Park Conservancy, the dedicated caretakers of the park’s beautiful gardens and lawns.
This walk will count for 7 miles of your total. You do not have to participate in the Fall Challenge to join the walk—all members are welcome.
