Details
Join us on Staten Island to explore Hero, Silver, and Clove Lake parks and vicinity. The pace will be leisurely to moderate. We pass through contrasting neighborhoods and along woodland and lake paths. The walk is approx. 7miles with return by bus to the ferry.
We head out from St. George ferry along Bay Street and continue a steady uphill along multicultural shops on Victory Boulevard to Silver Lake. Along the way, we ascend to Hero Park, Notre Dame Academy, and Belvedere Social Club, admiring Howard Avenue majestic homes and pausing high up for a bay panorama. We descend to Silver Lake and stop at Veranda Grill for lunch at outdoor tables overlooking the golf course. Restrooms available. Beverages/snacks for purchase.
We continue uphill on Victory, turn on Royal Oak Road, and enter Clove Lake Park. We stroll downhill on a woodland path and along a lake and brook before reaching the historic tulip tree, possibly the oldest and largest tree in the city. We exit the park on the corner of Forest Ave. and Clove Rd. and take the S48 back to St. George Ferry Terminal.
