Are you looking to walk those last few Virtual Saunter miles in the company of other Shorewalkers while visiting some points of interest? Then join this last-minute walk of up to 10 miles with many opportunities to leave (or stay!) once you have met your 32-mile goal. Distance, 9-10 miles, approximately 5-6 hours walking depending on how long we linger at stops. Many drop-offs. See closing notes below for challenge and guest information. ***NOTE THAT THIS WALK WILL LEAVE ON TIME, SO ALLOW FOR TRANSPORTATION GLITCHES***

Logistics:

  • Meet: At the gate in front of Audubon Terrace, Broadway between 155th St. and 156th St.
  • Getting here: Take the #1 to 157th St and walk down a block, or take the C train to 155th and walk West two blocks.
  • Coffee for early arrivals: A bagel shop across Broadway and a coffee shop on Morgan Place around the corner from the #1 train downtown station stop, and two bodegas. But arrive early if you want to pick up anything.
  • Bring: Pay attention to the weather and dress accordingly. Otherwise the usual water, snacks, and sunscreen if needed.
  • Getting home: Except for the zigging and zagging, this is basically a linear walk. Trains will be on the 1 and A lines.

For your consideration:

  • What to expect: Visits to Uptown Trinity Cemetery to greet a few Notable New Yorkers, Ralph Ellison Memorial, Hamilton Grange (closed but a peek along the way to) the 135th St. New Croton Aqueduct Gatehouse, Grant’s Tomb and The Amiable Child, Peace Fountain at St. John the Divine Cathedral, A few more gatehouses, and a zig-zag through Central Park landmarks, exiting at Columbus Circle.
  • Bathrooms: First bathroom is at Columbia Forum on 127th and Broadway, then the Conservatory Garden, the Central Park Tennis courts, Delacorte Theater, Tavern on the Green as needed, and last opp at the Deutsche Center at 59th St.
  • Snack break: Think of combining snack and bathroom breaks. If we are a small group, we can decide together if we want or need a longer break.
