Let’s walk in the Heights of Manhattan and look for Medieval references as we go. This is a guided history walk and we will make stops along the way to talk about what we see. The stops are concentrated in the first part of the walk, while the last leg of the route is mostly walking.

Meeting Time: 10:15am. Walk starts at 10:30 prompt.

Meeting Location: This walk is for Shorewalkers members on the Going list only. Meet at 141st and St. Nicholas Avenue, SW corner, at entrance to park. (Nearest subway is A, B, C, D to 145th Street; walk south on St. Nicholas Ave to 141st.) Please arrive in time to use the restroom before the walk. The restroom is nearby in the park.

Distance: approx 6 miles.
Terrain: There are hills throughout the entire route and some stairs. Most of the hills go up.
Pace: Moderate walking pace. This is not a fast-paced walk.

End Location: Fort Tryon Park, next to A subway (190th St station).
We will not be walking in the park as a group at the end of the walk, but walkers are welcome to do so on their own as an optional extension.

End Time: About 3:30pm. End time is approximate. We may end a bit earlier or later. We will never be far from subway stations for early drop-out, if desired.

Bathrooms at meeting location, at 2.5 miles (snack break), 5 miles, and at the end location. Restrooms are parks department restrooms.

Bring your own food/water. We will take a short snack break early’ish in the walk. Bring easy-to-eat food and water to consume during the remainder of the walk. Please come prepared as we will not stop to make food purchases along the route.

Group size is set by the walk leader. This walk is for a limited-size group; please be courteous with your RSVP. Thank you.

Registration is only $8 for members, and Shorewalkers will donate all fees to the Carl Schurz Park Conservancy, the caretakers of the park. This Medieval Manhattan walk will count for six miles of your total. You do not have to participate in the Fall Challenge to RSVP for this walk.
