Höstbropromenad till IKEA 🍁 Fall Bridge Walk to IKEA 🍁 4-5 Miles
Details
It's Golden Autumn in Sweden, and while we can't actually go there, we can do the next best thing: walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to IKEA. Låt oss gå (let's walk)! Along the way, we can enjoy höstlöv (fall foliage) and fallande löv (falling leaves) in Brooklyn Heights and Cobble Hill, arriving at Ikea/Red Hook in time for frukost (Swedish for breakfast) or lunch (Swedish for lunch), and returning by the free NY Waterways Ikea Ferry. Distance is 4 miles, plus [what feels like] an additional mile walking through the store.
Meet: 8:15 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 2025 at Chambers and Centre Streets, in the plaza across from the entrance to the Brooklyn Bridge walkway. Closest subways are 4/5/6 Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall, J/Z Chambers St., and R/W City Hall. A/C and 1/2/3 Chambers St. are 2-3 blocks away. There is a Starbucks with restroom near our meeting place.
Route: After crossing the Brooklyn Bridge, we'll make a restroom stop in Cadman Plaza. We'll walk through Brooklyn Heights and Cobble Hill; cross over the BQE; then follow Red Hook’s main drag, Van Brunt Street, to Beard Street, arriving at our destination around 11.
Breakfast/lunch: IKEA’s Swedish Restaurant (cafeteria) on the second level serves frukost (breakfast) until 11, and lunch from 11 on. See menu. The Swedish Bistro on the first level, has hot dogs, pizza, and ice cream. If you prefer to BYO lunch, you can picnic in the park by the water.
Return: via 11:20 (early departure) or 12:50 p.m. NY Waterways IKEA Ferry (free on weekends). The ferry to Pier 11/Wall Street takes 10 minutes. The same ferry continues 20 minutes more (with fabulous views), arriving at Pier 79/West 39th Street at 1:25 p.m. Free shuttles connect to Midtown and Chelsea/Greenwich Village.
If you opt to linger at IKEA, here’s the complete ferry schedule. Also, from IKEA, the B57 and B61 bus lines connect to subways (Consult your trip planner).
Bring: Water, hat, sunglasses, snacks. Food/bev available for purchase at IKEA.
Guests: You may invite a guest but you must have them sign Shorewalkers’ waiver and release at this link.
If it’s raining, we’ll reschedule.
