Walk the Second Half of the NYC Marathon Route
Details
We will walk the second half of the NYC Marathon route, from Long Island City to the finish line in Central Park, the day before the actual marathon. Approximately 14 miles, on city streets (except for the last stretch in Central Park) and mostly flat, except for the bridges we will cross. The pace will be moderate.
We will meet at the exit of the Vernon Boulevard-Jackson Avenue # 7 subway station. From there, we will walk half-way up the Pulaski Bridge, to the half-marathon mark and circle back to follow the marathon course to the Queensborough Bridge, over the bridge into Manhattan and along First Avenue up to the Willis Avenue Bridge into the Bronx and back into Manhattan over the Madison Avenue Bridge, and down Fifth Avenue to Central Park and the finish line at Tavern on the Green.
We will stop in St. Catherine’s Park on First Avenue & 67 Street for a brief lunch. There will be restrooms on playgrounds and various drop-out points along the route.
BRING: Water, snacks, lunch, sunscreen/hat.
HIKE LEADER: Brigitte, 646-651-3911 on day of walk only.
