Central Park After Dark

Enjoy an early evening walk through the southern portion of Central Park with great views of the 5th avenue, Central Park South and Central Park West sky lines.

The temperature is forecasted to be in the low 40's.

This will be a 3 1/2 mile one way 2 hour walk in the southern portion of Central Park. The plan is to start at Columbus Circle, walk north to and around the lake, to the Bethesda Terrace, then proceed south thru the Mall to the Wollman Skating Rink, passing the pond then ending the walk at Grand Army Plaza at 5th avenue and 59th street. Those who wish can continue on their own to walk down Fifth Avenue to view the remaining Christmas decorations including the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.

TIME: 4:45 pm for checkin, 5:00 pm for departure.

MEET: Meet inside the Deutsche Bank Center on Columbus Circle. Please meet at the main entrance near the escalators to the Whole Foods store. There are bathrooms and food options in this building. Nearest subway is 59th Street / Columbus Circle (A, B, C, D and 1).

DISTANCE: 3 1/2 miles

TERRAIN: Mostly flat walk on lighted paved walkways. Though the walkways are lighted, they will not be overly bright so attendees may want to bring a flashlight though this is not required. The walk leader will have a flashlight.

BATHROOMS:
0-mile mark Deutsche Bank Center (east side of Columbus Circle) or public bathroom (inside Central Park just north of our meeting location).
3.5-mile mark at end of walk at the Apple Store or Trump Tower.

PACE: Comfortable, steady walking pace, over mostly flat terrain, pausing for photos at pretty locations. There will be little if any commentary but I will try to answer any questions people may have about the park.

END LOCATION: At Grand Army Plaza (5th avenue / 59th street). Nearest subway is 59th Street / Columbus Circle (N, R, W). Additional subways F, Q, E, M, 4, 5, 6 a few blocks away.

BRING: Water, snacks. We will not be making any food stops.

WEATHER POLICY: In case of iffy weather, hike leader will post a comment on this page by 8am the day of the hike to confirm status. Dress for the weather.

LATE ARRIVALS: Walk starts promptly at 5:00 pm. If you arrive late, my plan is to walk from the starting location north passing the Heckscher Fields, the Sheep Meadow to the lake. Being that it will be dark, you may have a hard time finding us.
