Queens Parks Walk #2; Flushing Meadows Park to Fort Totten

Join us for another delightful 16+ mile walk/hike through the “green heart” of Queens, where you’ll feel far away from the city and closer to nature. Our route connects several parks and scenic trails, with most of the journey surrounded by trees, meadows, and peaceful paths.
📍 Meet-Up Location
🕘 9:00 AM
📍 Mets–Willets Point Station (Subway #7 or LIRR)
We will meet in front of the main entrance to the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center at David Dinkins Circle.
Please arrive on time — we will start walking promptly at 9:00 AM.
🚶♂️ The Walk / Hike
This is a faster, steady-paced hike covering 16+ miles.
Recommended: Trail shoes & Hiking poles
A good portion of the route will be on park trails.
During the hike we will pass through 5 major parks and several connector parks, including a visit to “Queens Giant,” NYC’s oldest and tallest tree, as well as the Alley Pond Environmental Center and Fort Totten.
About 90% of the walk is away from busy roads, offering long green stretches where you might forget you’re still in New York City.

🏁 End of the Walk
The hike will end at the Visitor’s Center in Fort Totten Park.
From there you can take local buses to nearby subway or train stations:
- Q16 → Lippmann Plaza (near Main St & Roosevelt Ave)
- Q13 → Bell Blvd & 41 Ave (Bayside LIRR Station)
🍎 Good to Know
- Bring plenty of water, lunch, and snacks
- The route is mostly through parks — there are no shops once we start
Lunch stop:
Alley Pond Park Rest Station
(near Winchester Blvd & Union Turnpike)
Possible early exit from there via:
- Q46 or Q48 → Queens Blvd / 78 Cres → Union Turnpike Subway Station (E or F)
⚠️ Important:
This is a 16+ mile hike with limited drop-out points.
Please only join if you are comfortable walking this distance.
After Kissena Park, the only way to leave the hike is via local buses to nearby subway or train stations.
