Astoria to Flushing
Details
Distance: 8.5 (Eight and a half) miles
We meet at 10:45 a.m. for an 11:00 a.m. departure.
Meet outside the Dunkin' Donuts at 25-02 31st Street, Astoria, NY, on the corner of 31st Street and Hoyt Ave South.
There will be two, possibly three restroom stops on this walk. The first restroom stop is about ten minutes after we start in Astoria Park. The second restroom stop is about two hours later. There may be a restroom stop in between the two aforementioned stops depending on if work in a park has been completed.
At the end of the walk there are restrooms available at the Flushing Library about a five minute walk from where the walk ends.
Take the N or W train to Astoria Blvd.
We will pass the General Slocum disaster memorial plaque, the Steinway factory and Steinway Mansion, the entrance to Rikers Island. We will not be visiting Rikers Island. The entrance is as close as we will get to Rikers Island. The Lent-Riker-Smith Homestead (1656), Planeview park where you can see up close, or as close as possible, planes landing and taking off (we will probably have lunch here). and the Flushing Promenade, a 1.4 mile walk along the water (Flushing Bay). The walk ends in downtown Flushing.
