Summer Friday: Rock Rock Rockaway Beach 🌞 5 mi

Let’s take the ferry to Rockaway Beach, walk on the boardwalk, head over to Rockaway Beach Surf Club for bevs and lunch at the adjacent Tacoway Beach, then loop back to the ferry to Manhattan.

Meet: Friday, June 5, 9:30 a.m. at Pier 11/Wall Street. We will take the 9:49 Rockaway/Soundview ferry to Rockaway. Fare is 4.50 each way, ticket machines or app. [Here's how to obtain 1.45 senior fare]. There’s a restroom in the ferry building.

Course: Arriving at Beach 108h Street at 10:50, we’ll walk at a casual pace from the bay side to the ocean, past bungalows and the chic Rockaway Hotel, then along recently replenished Rockaway Beach, where work on erosion control and a seawall is still in progress in one section. Walking on the sand is an option. Our lunch destination is the rustic Rockaway Beach Surf Club/Tacoway on Beach 87th Street. After lunch we’ll return to the boardwalk and loop back to the ferry.

Return: Via the 2:18 or 3:24 ferry at Beach 108th Street, depending. Early exit option is the A train at 90th Street, near Rockaway Surf Club.

Bring: Water, snacks, hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. Food/drinks for purchase at Rockaway Beach Club/Tacoway.

Ferry Note: Our ferry leaves Soundview at 8:50 a.m. and makes several East River stops before leaving Pier 11 Wall Street at 9:49. It also stops in Sunset Park Brooklyn. If it’s more convenient, meet us on the ferry. Just let us know.
