Paterson Unlocked: The Grand Reopening Trek
Details
Distance: 11-ish miles.
**THINGS TO NOTE:
Be prepared for many stairs, as well as hilly, rocky, and root-covered terrain with inclines throughout the woods(Garret Mountain). Please note that there will be no drop-out points along the route, so assess your own condition and abilities before deciding to join.
Paterson is finally coming back to life! After years of waiting, almost everything that was closed has reopened in just the last two months.
The highlight is the brand-new River Walk at the old Allied Textile Printing (ATP) site. While the National Park’s falls overlook is a classic, this new section takes it to another level—it's a massive effort that transformed a historic brownfield into a stunning walkway. I’m thrilled they’ve preserved the weathered industrial ruins, weaving them right into the new park's design.
We’ll also be crossing the Great Falls pedestrian bridge (finally open after years!), catching panoramic city views from Vista Park, and winding through the trails of Garret Mountain.
Note on Lambert Castle: We are going inside to see the incredible 6-year restoration! If you make it onto the attendee list, I’ll message you to purchase your $10 ticket online in advance.
