We the Walkers! Revolutionary Manhattan (5.5 miles)
Details
Happy Birthday, USA. Huzzah! In recognition of the Semiquincentennial, let’s take a walk.
We’ll combine a history-lite walk through American Revolution battlegrounds, stories about women’s history, and a visit to the Hispanic Society’s exhibition Goya and the Age of Revolution. Read pinned comment below for museum info.
Group size is small to ensure the gallery visit and urban hike are comfortable and manageable.
Start time: 10am to check in. Walk begins 10:15am.
Start location: Please understand this small-group walk is limited to Shorewalkers members who RSVP and are on the Attendees list. Meet at the entrance to Fort Tryon Park at Margaret Corbin Circle & Fort Washington Ave. Take the A train to 190th & exit station via the ELEVATOR near the token booth. After exiting the elevator, go outdoors & UP the set of stairs on your right to street level. At street level, look to your right & you’ll see a traffic circle. On the other side of the traffic circle is the pedestrian entrance to Fort Tryon Park (not the playground straight ahead, but the park to the right). Check in with the walk leader there. Our first stop on the walk is the restroom.
End location: 125th Street & St. Nicholas Ave subway station with A,B,C,D trains.
Approx end time: 2:30pm’ish. End time is not exact. We might end earlier or later.
Distance: 5.5 miles
Pace: Moderate walk. This is not a fast-paced, non-stop walk.
Terrain: Sidewalks. Route includes stairs, hills (up & down).
Bring: Water, snacks to consume along the way. Please come prepared - we are not stopping to make purchases.
Big backpacks and bags are not allowed in the museum. Small backpacks must be worn in front of body. Be ready to check backpack/bag in a storage area if directed by staff.
Bathrooms available at our first stop, at the museum, and near the end location.
Weather policy: Walk leader will post a comment on this Meetup page by 7am on day of walk with the walk status.
