Sunset Park "How Sweet It Is" (Great Saunter Fall Challenge)

This will be a guided tour (with much commentary) which will explore the ethnically diverse, formally industrial neighborhood of Sunset Park in Brooklyn.

Nearest Subway to our meeting location is the R Train 25th Street and Fourth Avenue Station. It is a short uphill walk to 25th Street and Fifth Avenue, where we will be gathering at the main entrance to the Green-Wood Cemetery

Beginning at a world-famous necropolis and ending at the location where Elvis (and his tank) left for Germany, this tour will encompass the history and cultures of this fascinating section of Brooklyn. Highlights include Industry City, Sunset Park (the Park in Sunset Park), the Bush Terminal Piers Park and ending at the Brooklyn Army Terminal.

Take the Great Saunter Fall Challenge, walk 32 miles over 16 days, starting October 3. To register and for further information please go to the Shorewalkers.org website. Help Shorewalkers support our parks by donating $10 to participate, with all fees going to the Riverside Park Conservancy. This will count for 6 miles of your total 32 miles.

The closest Subway Station near the end point will be the 59th Street and Fourth Avenue Station of both the R and N trains.

Will be walking at a moderate (not slow) pace. The walk will last close to four hours and will cover about 6 miles. There will be ample restrooms stops and a short 20-minute snack break.

Heavy rain/snow or other forms of extreme weather will cancel the walk. Please check this site for updates.
