WALKWAY OVER THE HUDSON AND FRANNY REESE STATE PARK CIRCULAR
Details
The hike begins with a crossing over the Hudson River on the "Walkway Over the Hudson," followed by a visit to Franny Reese State Park. In the park, we'll ascend to a lookout area, offering scenic views. That will be our lunch spot. After spending additional time exploring the park, we will return to the Poughkeepsie Train Station by way of the Mid-Hudson Bridge. The route features unique scenery and some hilly terrain and an old haunted mansion. The group's pace will be very moderate—neither too fast nor too slow—and all participants are expected to remain with the group. There will be a sweep. Please note, the hike will be postponed in case of wet weather. Be sure to bring lunch and drinks. Pets are not permitted on this hike. Our total distance will be about 4 miles. Joint with AMC.
Transportation: Take the HUDSON LINE train departing Grand Central at 8:56 a.m., arriving in Poughkeepsie at 10:58 a.m. For the return trip, afternoon trains to Grand Central leave Poughkeepsie at 1:51 p.m. and 2:55 p.m. We'll be on one of them, probably the 1:51 express. The ride back to Grand Central takes approximately two hours.
Hint: When riding north to Poughkeepsie sit on the left side at a window and enjoy some great scenery all the way there.
Drivers should meet at the Poughkeepsie Train Station at 10:45 am. and wait for the 10:58 a.m. train to arrive. After arriving, gather in the waiting room by the restrooms. If you get lost, call me at 914-400-7110.
