Old Croton Aqueduct #3

This is the third in a series of walks on the Old Croton Aqueduct trail.
This third section is 8 miles. We will look at places of interest along the way. There are some hills towards the end. Aside from this, the terrain is flat. We will start in Hastings-on-Hudson and end in Tarrytown.

There is no waitlist for this hike. All Shorewalkers who want to attend can attend. Please let me know when you sign up if you plan to drive.
If you are unable to attend after signing up, please remove your name from the list so I can know how many to expect.

MEET: At 10:00 AM at the corner of Washington Street and Aqueduct Lane. This is a few blocks from the Hastings-on-Hudson train station. From the train station, walk south along Southside Avenue and turn left onto Washington Avenue.

For those taking public transportation:
Take the 1 train to 225th Street. Cross Broadway at the traffic light and turn left to walk to the corner of 225th Street. Cross 225th Street and turn right, walking between the concrete barriers on 225th Street to the entrance of the Metro-North Marble Hill station.
On the platform, the train going to Hastings-on-Hudson will be on your right. The Metro-North train leaves Marble Hill at 9:15 AM and arrives in Hastings-on-Hudson at 9:34 AM. Seniors may purchase tickets on the train without penalty. The fare is $4.50 for adults and $2.25 for seniors. [If you miss the 9:15 AM train, the next train will arrive in Marble Hill at 9:48 AM and arrive in Hastings-on-Hudson at 10:07; If you are on the 9:48 train, please text me and let me know. You can catch up. ]

If you want to leave from Grand Central:
The 8:52 AM train will arrive in Hastings-on-Hudson at 9:34 AM.
The 9:14 AM train will arrive in Hastings-on-Hudson at 10:07 AM.
The fare is $13.75 for adults, and $6.75 for seniors.

For the drivers:
Park along Washington Street, ideally between Warburton Avenue and Aqueduct Lane.

We will all meet at the corner of Washington Avenue and Aqueduct Lane in Hastings-on-Hudson at 10:00 AM.

On Return:
From Tarrytown:
The train from Tarrytown to Marble Hill in the Bronx leaves at 3:18 pm, 3:50 pm, 4:18 pm, 4:46 pm, and 5:18 pm and takes 27-32 minutes. The fare is $6.25 for adults and $3.00 for seniors. The Metro-North station at Marble Hill is one block from the #1 subway station at 225th St and Broadway. Make sure you are towards the front of the train because not all car doors open at Marble Hill due to a short platform.

The train from Tarrytown to Grand Central leaves at 3:03 pm, 3:18 pm, 3:37 pm, 3:50 pm, 4:18 pm, 4:46 pm, and 5:04 pm, and takes 47-61 minutes. The fare is $11.75 for adults and $8.00 for seniors.

For the drivers: The train from Tarrytown to Hastings-on-Hudson leaves at 2:50 pm, 3:18 pm, 3:50 pm, 4:18 pm, 4:46 pm, and 5:18 pm and takes 9-10 minutes. The fare is $3.50 for adults, and $1.75 for seniors. Seniors can pay on the train with a credit card without penalty.

BRING: Water, snack, lunch. Please make sure you have a snack that you can eat while you are walking. Poles are not needed (I used a walking stick and found it helpful when I was tired).
Sneakers are okay, but hiking boots may be helpful if there is mud.
Long pants and socks are suggested.
