Over three consecutive days, Tuesday through Thursday, we'll walk the iconic 32-mile Great Saunter route in reverse (counterclockwise), circumnavigating Manhattan Island up the East Side and down the West Side

The series begins on Tuesday with Stretch #3 of the regular Great Saunter route, approximately 11 miles and about 5 hours at a moderate pace. The next walk in the series will take place on Wednesday, October 14.

On Tuesday, we'll begin at the Staten Island Ferry Terminal and walk up the East Side to East 125th Street. Join us for all or part of the walk; there will be multiple drop-out points along the route.

Meet at 10:00 a.m. on the second floor of the Staten Island Ferry Terminal, outside the restrooms, for a prompt 10:15 a.m. departure. Please use the restrooms before 10:15 a.m.

We will follow the East River as closely as possible, enjoying waterfront parkland in Lower Manhattan, including Pier 42 Park, which was recently connected to John V. Lindsay East River Park. Several detours will be necessary due to ongoing work associated with the East Side Coastal Resiliency Project.

Our lunch break will be in Andrew Haswell Greenpark on the East Midtown Greenway.

There will be several restrooms available along the way.

The walk ends at the Harlem-125th Street Metro-North train station (125 Street & Park Avenue), one block East of the 125 Street subway stop of the 4/5/6 trains.

Bring: water, sunscreen, a hat, snacks and lunch.

Leaders: Brigitte, 646-651-3911; Laura, 917-658-6779, on day of walk only.

Take the Great Saunter Fall Challenge. Register here to walk 32 miles over 16 days, starting Oct. 3. Help Shorewalkers support our parks by donating $10 to participate, with all fees going to Riverside Park Conservancy. This walk will count for 11 miles of your total.
