About 30 miles. About 11 to 12 hours. Moderate to brisk pace.

Join us to walk the Hudson River waterfront north from Exchange Place in Jersey City, across the George Washington Bridge, and south to the World Trade Center. Brisk pace.

We’ll meet outside the Exchange Place PATH station at 8:30 a.m. and leave promptly at 8:40 a.m. We’ll be in the plaza outside the station by that escalator exit.

We recommend using the PATH train from World Trade Center. Take the 8:27 am from there to arrive at Exchange Place at 8:31. For additional options, please check the PATH schedule on the app or here: https://www.panynj.gov/path/en/index.html. Please also check Meetup for updates from us - last year the schedule changed right before our walk.

Restrooms are somewhat limited at the start. Best to arrive early to give you time to go to Hyatt Hotel, the Gregory’s coffee shop across the street (please buy something), or to the Paulus Hook ferry building, about a quarter of a mile south (half a mile there and back). We will have a group restroom stop about 45 minutes into the walk.

We’ll follow the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway north, with beautiful views of Manhattan, and take a brief lunch break at Whole Foods in Weehawken. From there, we’ll climb up the hill in the Edgewater Colony, to get to and cross the George Washington Bridge, with its spectacular vistas, then make our way down to the Manhattan shoreline and follow that south to the World Trade Center.

The route is mostly flat, but there are 146 stairs at about mid-point, and a steep climb after those, up to the George Washington Bridge. We’ll keep a moderate to brisk pace. There are a few dropout points – several ferry options, buses, and, once we’re on the Manhattan side, the 1 train runs parallel to us east of the route.

There will be sections of the walk without shade, so please prepare for that. Bring a hat, sunglasses, water, and snacks/lunch. Our lunch break will be at a Whole Foods, a little less than halfway along the route, so you’ll have a chance to replenish your fuel there, but you’ll need water and maybe snacks before then. Heavy rain cancels.

A grateful nod to Freewalkers for introducing us to this terrific route.
