Sunsets in Coney Island continue to be spectacular, so we will walk along the shoreline from the aquarium to the far end of the the island to admire the changing colors of the sky as the sun goes down. Our walk will start with a trip to the aquarium, followed by a walk to see the setting sun. We will be walking on the sand along the shoreline.

In the aquarium, we will look at the various denizens of the ocean and watch the Aquatheater show, where the sea lions "play" with the trainers.

Admission: The aquarium charges an admission fee, but if you have a IDNYC card, you can get a year's membership to the aquarium and the NYC zoos. It takes the receptionist just five minutes or so to print out your Wildlife Conservation membership card that you can use right away to enter the aquarium. If you don't have an IDNYC, do follow the directions in the link above, so that you can join us for similar events in October and November. You should get your ID in the mail within a couple of weeks.

Bring snacks and anything else you might need for the duration of the event. You can also buy food and beverages at the numerous eating places that are still open on the boardwalk.

Registration: The weather for next week doesn't look too promising, so registration will open at 9 AM on Monday. Registrants will be placed in the waitlist. In order to move to the Going list, please write "I have a IDNYC" or "I'm a member" or "I'm willing to pay the admission fee".

Meet at 3 PM on the boardwalk by West 10th Street, where you will see a small NYC Park pavillion.

Getting there: Take the F or Q line to the West 8th Street/New York Aquarium stop. Cross Surf Avenue, and walk to the boardwalk. You can also take the D or N lines to Coney Island/Stillwell Avenue. Cross Surf Avenue, get on the boardwalk, and walk a few blocks to the left.

Restrooms: There are several restrooms in the aquarium. If you're taking the subway to Stillwell Avenue and heading straight to the boardwalk, look for a Parks Department building where you can find restrooms.

End: The walk ends at the western-most end of the shoreline soon after sunset. You can walk back to the subway station along the boardwalk or take the B36 bus to the Coney Island subway station.

Please check your schedules and your availability before registering for this event.

Rain cancels.
