Central Park Fall Foliage walk - Northern Edition

This will be an approximately 4 mile 2.5 hour loop walk enjoying the fall foliage in the northern part of Central Park. The plan is to walk up the east side of Central Park to the Harlem Meer, then head west thru the Ravine to the Pool, then south down the west side of Central Park passing the Reservoir and ending back where we started at 5th Avenue and 84th street. There will be a short lunch / bathroom break halfway through the walk at the Davis Center.

TIME: 11:00 am for checkin, 11:15 am for departure.

MEET: Meet outside the Ancient Playground located on the west side of 5th Avenue between 84-85th streets. Nearest subways are the 4,5,6 and Q trains on 86th street.

DISTANCE: approximately 4 miles There will be some walking up and down small hills and along rustic trails, so it’s best to wear sturdy shoes.

BATHROOMS:
0-mile mark at Ancient Playground (meeting spot)
2-mile mark at Davis Center
4-mile mark at Ancient Playground (end of walk)

PACE: Comfortable, steady walking pace, over flat and hilly terrain, pausing for photos at pretty locations. There will be occasional commentary and I will try to answer any questions people may have about the park.

END LOCATION: 5th Avenue at 84th street. Nearest subways are the 4,5,6 and Q trains on 86th street.

BRING: Water, lunch, snacks. We will be stopping for a short lunch and bathroom break at the Davis Center. Food will not be available for purchase at the Davis Center until ice skating starts on November 1.

WEATHER POLICY: In case of iffy weather, hike leader will post a comment on this page by 8am the day of the hike to confirm status.

LATE ARRIVALS: Walk starts promptly at 11:15 am. If you arrive late, my plan to walk north along the bridal path on the east side of the Reservoir to the North Meadow and onward to the Davis Center arriving there at approximately 12:30pm for a lunch break.
