Sunset Hudson River Walk and Jazz Concert

This will be a 4 1/2 mile walk from the Oculus Transit Center to Pier 84 (44 st). Once at Pier 84 we can enjoy a free Jazz Concert sponsored by the Jazz Foundation of America. The concert begins at 7pm and lasts about 1 1/2 hours. Bring a blanket or mat to sit on the grass, or sit on the benches facing the band. You may want to bring food (there is no food sold on the pier) and a light jacket or sweatshirt since it may be cool on the pier.

The plan is to meet at the Oculus Beer Garden, walk thru the Oculus and underpass to the World Financial Center. Then we”ll follow the Hudson River waterfront to Pier 84. The total distance is 4 1/2 miles. This will be a relatively brisk walk that starts promptly at 5:15pm.

TIME: 5:00 pm for checkin, 5:15pm for departure.

MEET: The Oculus Beer Garden next to the Oculus Transit Center on Church and Vesey Street.

Subways: R, W (Cortlandt St), or numerous subway lines at Fulton Street. Bathrooms are available inside the Oculus.

DISTANCE: 4 1/2 miles

TERRAIN: flat

BATHROOMS:
0-mile mark Inside the Oculus.
2-mile mark at Pier 45.
4 1/2-mile mark at Pier 84.

PACE: Comfortable, steady walking pace.

END LOCATION: Pier 84. Nearest subway is Hudson Yards (7), 8th Ave/42nd street (A, C, E), Times Square (1,2,3,7, N, Q) . Ferry Terminal at west 39th street.

BRING: Water, food, light jacket or sweatshirt. There is no food sold at Pier 84.

WEATHER POLICY: In case of iffy weather, hike leader will post a comment on this page by 8am the day of the hike to confirm status. Dress for the weather.

LATE ARRIVALS: Walk starts promptly at 5:15pm. If you arrive late, my plan is to walk north along the Hudson River to Pier 84 so try to catch up or go directly to Pier 84.
