National Gallery Picture Hunt

The National Gallery was founded in 1824, after the British government bought a collection of 38 pictures from the banker and collector John Julius Angerstein, consisting of Italian, Dutch and English works.
Our unique Picture Hunts are a great way to broaden your art knowledge while sleuthing around gallery rooms.
Generally, it’s teams of four depending on numbers. Everyone receives a sheet of 20 part images taken from paintings in a few designated rooms. They could be body parts, buildings or scenery. As far as faces go, we’re talking eyes only. A real test.
Your team mission is to find them. You will also have a map of the Gallery. The selected rooms are listed P, Q, R and S. The clipboard holder enters the room letter to note the image location.
Dead simple, right? Well, yes, if you can spot them all. Actually all teams do well as the results are always close.
Picture Hunts are interesting and challenging, bringing out the best of your teams detecting skills. Check photos below for the previous Picture Hunt sheet.
The starting process is as follows. The earlier your team sets off, the more time you have. So turning up early before 1.30 is a bonus. To do this, pre-book your entry.
Team answer sheets have to be back to me at the cafe by 3.15, or there is a one point penalty.
Please turn up early as there normally is a queue. You can book a free entry time slot (in advance like now) by registering with the Gallery, which lets you saunter up the empty pre-booked queue. You’ll love doing this - try it! Even if the time slots are full you will still get in anyway but by queuing.
We meet in the large sitting space area beside the Gallery’s Espresso cafe.
We meet back next to the Espresso cafe where we mark up. In case of a tiebreak, there will be a general knowledge numerical question where the “nearest to” wins.
We have the usual prizes of chocolate, including some great new varieties, or choose from world famous war and bus museum fridge magnets.
There is also an equal prize for the funniest team name judged by one of the Gallery staff. So there’s everything to play for. It’s good policy to have a team name in hand before you start.
We always pop into the local Montague Pyke Wetherspoon for a quick drink after if anybody so wishes.
Hunts are good fun and the proven experience so far is that members get to know each other better after working in teams as you all have to communicate. Great icebreakers. This is what Meetup is all about. Come and join us.
There is a £5 cash charge for this event.
Contact number on the day is 07422334411 if your transport is delayed.
Don’t forget to cancel via the “Edit RSVP” button if you can’t make a walk. Please do this well in advance when you know, so it allows good notice for someone else to take your place. Your consideration is greatly appreciated.
