What we’re about
The Short Reads Club Aims to be a celebration of short-form writing, perfect for anyone who wants to join a book club but doesn't have the time or energy to invest in longer reads, people looking for a gentle route back into regular reading, and, of course, general fans of short stories. Our aim is to be as accessible as possible, so we always endeavour to make sure all attendees have the option to access our chosen texts for free. Where necessary, links are posted in the event comments.
Each month we will read a different short story. We will read across genres and always welcome suggestions of great pieces to add to our tbr.
We meet in The Amnesty Bookshop on Micklegate, usually on the first Sunday of the month. Teas, coffees and biscuits will be available, please let Kate know if you have any dietary requirements (eg you're vegan or gluten intolerant) so we can make sure you have something suitable to snack on.
There is an administration fee of £2 per session, once costs are covered, any excess will be donated to Amnesty International UK. Payment can be made by PayPal (message Kate for details) or in cash on the day. We do not expect people to pay for sessions they have been unable to attend, for whatever reason, we just ask that if something comes up, you change your status to free up a spot if you can, as spaces are very limited.
