We will be reading the biography of Chris McCandless, Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer.

McCandless had given $25,000 in savings to charity, abandoned his car and most of his possessions, burned all the cash in his wallet, and invented a new life for himself. Not long after, he was dead. Into the Wild is the mesmerizing, heartbreaking tale of an enigmatic young man who goes missing in the wild and whose story captured the world’s attention.

Here are some key questions to keep in mind while pondering their life:

• Do you think he lived a meaningful life? Why or why not?

• If Chris McCandless was given 2 - 3 minutes to give a summary of what he thinks makes life meaningful, what do you think he would say?

• Based on this, how do you reconcile (if at all) his thoughts with your thoughts on how to make life meaningful?

• Is there anything about his life that resonates / inspires / challenges you?

• After reading this book, do you feel the need to change anything about your own life - did you pick up on anything that helps you reorient your life to move toward finding more meaning in your own life?
