Details

Hi all.

Hope you're enjoying the cooler temperatures this past week. This is our second and last event this month. Actually two events, with lunch between them. You can do neither, either or both events.

11:00 We view the art at Ironbridge Fine Arts. Summer Exhibition. The Artists:

  • Jenny Gunning – Beautifully detailed intaglio prints that capture the essence of landscape, architecture, and place using traditional etching techniques.
  • Emma Jackson – Screenprints collaged onto children’s building blocks, creating playful and visually striking pieces that explore themes of memory, form, and reinterpretation.
  • Heather Boxall – Bold, expressive printmaking from her BCC Colours series, celebrating the emotive power and vibrancy of colour.
  • Steve Evans RBSA – Incredible mixed media sculptures that reflect his architectural background, combining structure with sculptural form.

Followed by lunch. I plan to bring a packed lunch, find somewhere to eat and then to walk ~3 miles up to Benthall Hall. You're welcome to join me, or to eat locally in Ironbridge and then drive to Benthall Hall.

14:00 We visit Benthall Hall. A National Trust property, free to members, £10 for non-members, parking free for members, £3 for non-members. The blurb:

Situated on a plateau above the gorge of the River Severn, this fine stone house has mullioned and transomed windows, a stunning interior with carved oak staircase and decorated plaster ceilings and oak panelling.

The current house was built in 1535 but there have been Benthall's living on this site since the medieval period. During this time the house has been part of many interesting events from the Civil War to the Industrial Revolution.

In the garden there are fabulous crocus displays to be seen in the spring and autumn, there's also an intimate and carefully restored plantsman's garden, an old kitchen garden and interesting Restoration church.

15:00 Finish. Depart for home or walk back to Ironbridge (3 miles) with me.

*** Please note in your diary and RSVP latest 09:00 Sat 26 Jul ***

If you say you're going, then please turn up.

Please let me know if you any ideas for events in August.

Hope you can make!

Steve
