Pen y Fan & Corn Du Circular Hike

Details

Join us on Saturday 26th July for a rewarding day in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (formerly the Brecon Beacons), as we summit Pen y Fan (886m), the highest peak in South Wales! This scenic circular route gives us a quieter approach with big views, a dash of military history, and a heart-tugging tale or two along the way.
We’ll tick off three peaks, admire panoramic views across the valleys, and tackle varied terrain that’ll leave you feeling accomplished (and probably ready for cake).

### Why Join?

This hike is more than just a mountain—it’s a full day of:
🥾 Challenging yourself on one of Wales’s most iconic trails
🏞️ Soaking up sweeping views across the Bannau Brycheiniog range
💬 Learning about local legends, military history, and mountain myths
🤝 Making memories and sharing laughs with a lovely bunch of fellow walkers

### Route Highlights

⛰️ Craig Gwaun Taf (826m): Our first peak of the day, offering spectacular early views over Pen y Fan and Corn Du—with way fewer crowds!
🗻 Pen y Fan (886m): The star of the show. On a clear day, the views stretch across the park, and the sense of achievement is top-tier.
⛰️ Corn Du (873m): A short hop from Pen y Fan, this second summit gives you double bragging rights and photo ops galore.
🪖 Jacob’s Ladder: We'll take a look at the infamous steep Jacob's Ladder, a stepped route made famous by the SAS Fan Dance.
🪦 Tommy Jones Memorial: A moving stop where we’ll hear the tragic tale of 5-year-old Tommy Jones, commemorated high on the hillside.
↘️ Northwest Ridge of Corn Du: A steep descent with epic views—bring your careful feet and your camera.
🌾 Y Gyrn & Boggy Trails: We’ll loop back via Y Gyrn, where the terrain gets a bit marshy—waterproof boots recommended!
