The Longmynd is probably one of the most walked hills in Shropshire, but this route gets to the corners that others miss, affording spectacular views of the South Shropshire Hills & well into Wales. The circuit is just over 10miles long with 2000ft of ascent.
About a quarter of the walk uses the Portway, which is an ancient trade route, walking the high ground was safer than using the valleys. The terrain comprises hill paths, quiet lanes, forest tracks & open hillsides, there are no stiles.
I would class this as a moderate walk with one steep slope & one long steady climb.
As usual well behaved dogs on a short lead are welcome. We will make a couple of snack stops mid morning & lunchtime.
The car parking area can be found at what3 words ///sideboard.wooden.teach or postcode SY66TA will take you to the gliding club, but don’t go through the entrance, park diagonally on the grass area on the other side of the road.
After the walk there will be the option of a pub stop which we will agree on the day.
