Shut Up and Write Weekly Meeting

Details

Weekly, we host a writing WORKSHOP for those who would like writerly feedback for their stories, scripts, poems, essays, etc. while also being willing to offer that feedback to fellow writers. This is NOT like other Shut Up and Write events; we are an interactive and discussion group.
We are workshopping/providing feedback/interacting on pieces that are submitted to a share drive during the week run up to the Sunday meeting.

FIRST TIMERS: We are thrilled you have decided to check out our group. Please note that for first time visits you are NOT required to submit or critique pieces. For your first visit you observe the process and at the end of the meeting, if you’re still interested, there is an information exchange (email). This grants you access to the share drive where pieces are submitted.

DISCLAIMER: We are launching a social media presence. This is to help promote the books coming out of this group and capture our uniqueness. Be advised FILMING DOES OCCUR via smart devices.

Guidelines for the workshop:

  1. Submit pieces via word document or google docs NO later than SATURDAY midday. The sooner the better, this is important to give people time to review. If you submit later than Saturday there is NO guarantee your piece will be reviewed.
  2. We will provide helpful AND critical feedback.
  3. Do not send your edits/comments of someone's work until after the verbal workshop each month
  4. Up to 2000 words can be submitted. If you submit more there is no guarantee of review of the additional.
  5. Comics, poetry, screenplays, etc. are all acceptable.
  6. Please no purely pornographic or “literotica” submissions.
  7. Do either line edits or paragraph comment at the end (paragraph is only necessary if you do not do line edits, but provide as much as you are able to)
  8. Let us know if you’re doing something autobiographical so that we are not judging it as fiction

The expectation at each new workshop is that a minimum of 3-4 people will be willing to submit a piece of work that can be distributed via Google Drive for which all attendees can review. If you attend a meeting or submit a piece for review it is the understanding that you provide feedback for submissions. IF you submit for review and do NOT provide feedback for others on a consistent basis you will be removed from the events.
Workshop members will have time to add their line-edits/comments to the submitted documents. People are welcome to print out the piece or just to edit it via google docs.
