Dana Park Barnes & Noble in Mesa

At Shut Up & Write, we’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write in a coffee shop (or one within a bookstore), with coffee and the inspiring community of other writers. Be it a book, blog, script, poem, essay, dissertation, journal, resume, melody, or just plain work stuff. You are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice unless you ask for it from one writer to another.
We aren’t a critique group. This is a dedicated quiet hour devoted to writing with your “people”.
Instead of thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. Meeting with other writers keeps you accountable for doing the actual writing, and you become part of a writing community. If this sounds “write" to you, meet us at 5:30 pm on Tuesday evenings. We look forward to having you Shut Up & Write!
SCHEDULE:
5:30 -Introductions/Announcements. Author signings, book fairs, conventions and writing-related information,
5:45 -Timer starts: Shut Up & Write!
7:00ish - Writing ends: Optional writing exercise or discussion starts.
7:30 - Exercise ends, Socializing- Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing. If you are in the zone, feel free to stay and write. Barnes and Noble is open until 9 pm.
BEING LATE IS OKAY: show up and get settled. If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer.
What Should I Bring?
Whatever you need to be able to write! Pen, journal, or laptop.
Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block the bookshop's overhead music or the occasional conversation by other patrons.
Please be sure your laptops are charged, as outlets are limited.
Other Important Details:
Our Tuesday SUAW group is new and small. My partners in crime and I are SUAW veterans. We can tell you that becoming a part of a writing community has helped us create a writing routine. We are motivated and inspired by each other to keep writing.
We look forward to meeting other writers who are interested in building a writing community of passionate and engaged writers in Mesa! Barnes and Noble has allowed us space for up to 10 writers each week via Meetup.
